Hello and welcome. It is really an article that is GREATLY needed. No less than I think it is. I started wearing makeup around the age of 14 and when I began, it was the WRONG shade for my complexion. So! I am attempting to speak out for all the Beautiful, Brown-Skinned Black Women who have as hard a period of time finding makeup when i do. So, allow me to give you a little background on me.
To start with, Black is beautiful, as well as the darker the berry the sweeter the juice! That being said, at 14 I found myself just a little blackberry with no clue. When I first started wearing makeup it was actually just lipstick and yes it started out being my mom’s Fashion Fair. My mother who is light-skinned and possesses a daughter that is dark-skinned. Naturally her lipstick did NOT match whatsoever. I had been even referred to as a dark-skinned Ronald McDonald with a previous ex-boyfriend!
So, In my opinion that us brown-skinned and dark-skinned women need some extra help as it is more difficult for people like us to discover make-up which fits in drugstores, or makeup for dark skin that is certainly affordable. Plus Cosmo and Glamour as well as them be talking about great makeup for spring, but uh, hello did you forget black girls like make-up for spring too? So, I feel your pain. I am a self-appointed makeup aficionado, and would like to offer my experiences in addition to some items that are FABO and not a lot fabo. So… without further ado, let’s begin!
JUST AN FYI: These are typically all make-ups that we experienced to make use of through experimentation therefore i am sharing from EXPERIENCE!
FACE: I struggle to find the best foundation, and full-coverage make-up which is affordable so below are a few wonderful finds that I have found that happen to be both.
1-Cover Girl Queen Collection Natural Hue Liquid Foundation- Spicy Brown
PROS- it is efficient at matching skin tones who have yellow or red undertones, spreads easily and in case you just need moderate coverage provides you with an excellent value for your money. It is actually affordable ranging about 6-8 bucks, and you may discover it in most drugstores, and food markets.
CONS- In case you have brown spots and blemishes, this can NOT give you the policy you require! Not actually close, okay? Furthermore, it wears off quickly so you should reapply often. The bottle is upside down with a bit of spout, when you pour out a lot of, you cannot input it in the bottle and in these times of financial meltdown er’ little counts am I right ladies?!
Also, if you have troubles matching the skin tone because you have BOTH yellow and red, or maybe blue and red undertones, this collection is probably not to suit your needs as there is not a vast selection to choose from, so you may should go forward. Other shades that are great for brown-skinned to dark-skinned gals, and some of yourself fellas! Rich Mink, Sheer Espresso, and True Ebony.
2- Cover Girl Queen Collection Natural Hue Compact Foundation
PROS-It will give you more coverage compared to Liquid Foundation. That’s it. That’s about all I can imagine.
CONS-Unfortunately, it rubs off QUITE quickly. Additionally it is tinted slightly differently compared to the liquid foundation therefore i found it harder to suit my complexion. Also, when it was warm outside it wipes RIGHT off, and revealed every blemish in my face! LOL, in addition, it wipes off on your clothes, stains both hands, the whole bit. It’s moderately priced at the same time, so in order to look nice for a date at night, going somewhere cool, it’s a fast fix, having said that i wouldn’t wear it for the club, or possibly a carnival, anywhere that can be warm, or sweaty. It can be purchased in the identical.
3- Black Opal True Color Liquid Foundation – Black Walnut
PROS-Awesome Coverage. There is quite a bit from the bottle thus it can last you a significant while. It is really an upright standing bottle having a generous opening, so when you pour out excessive, it won’t be too hard to have back into the bottle, so that you can SAVE, SAVE, SAVE! I wear foundation daily, sometimes wash my face and re-apply if hanging out that night, and that bottle lasts me with regards to a good two months or more. You will recognize that it ranges from about 8-12 bucks… dependant upon your location. So it is an excellent buy.
CONS- In case you have combination to oily skin, WEAR POWDER, and keep it along! Over these upcoming warm to hot days, you could possibly look really greasy inside the face. However if you retain Blotters along with you, or powders, you have to be okay. Also, it may be that MY skin changes, in case that is the case disregard, however i find that as i go to buy a completely new one, the shade might not match much like the previous one, so be mindful of that.
Another con is that Black Opal Products could be a little harder to discover in shops than other goods that I mention. I don’t know if it’s that they’re not really that popular, or what, but whenever I look Normally i locate them in both Rite-Aid, or CVS. So, happy hunting. Other colors good for brown-skinned girls… Carob, Suede Mocha, and Ebony Brown….. As well as for you borderline caramel to brown-skin girls, Hazelnut!
4-Maybelline Pure Makeup (Shine Free Foundation with H2O) – Cocoa (Dark 3)
PROS- Very affordable, readily accessible. Based in Most drugstores, supermarkets, Wal-Mart. Costs range about 5.99-10 bucks, based on your region. Full coverage, doesn’t clog your pores, spreads easily.
CONS-Upside down tube, so you will need to be exact about how exactly much is needed for your face, cause if you are using a lot of… it will go to waste. Limited colors for darker skin color. They merely have THREE shades for ladies of the color. Dark 1- Tan, Dark 2- Caramel, and Dark 3-Cocoa. I actually have used the Cocoa. It really is too dark for my skin-tone.
However, the Caramel Dark 2 is too light. So, in case you are pressed for the money and don’t have the cash to experiment, I wouldn’t waste my time about this product. They have got FIVE shades devoted to light, FOUR for medium and simply three for people darkies??!!! Leave the product alone, except if you eventually match EXACTLY. Best of luck evading the lady who tries to watch you when you make an effort to sample the merchandise inside the store!
5- Black Radiance Color Perfect Oil Free Liquid Makeup- Cocoa Bean
PROS-Very inexpensive! VERY! Somewhat accessible. Costs about 5.99-10 bucks, and you will think it is in a lot of Beauty Supply stores, CVS carries it. Spreads evenly, good coverage, get a great deal for the buck. Also, will come in a jar with the open spout, so if you have excessive, you can input it in there. Offers you a good matte finish.
CONS- Cocoa Bean is not going to match my skin! But I have strange undertones taking place with my skin, so which can be why it is so difficult to complement. Whenever you apply this makeup it dries an alternative color, it’s crazy. There’s this… weird… applicator thingy, not sure how to deal with it, but it just became within my way basically. Says it is good for all skin types, however i have very sensitive skin on my own face, and that i found out that within thirty minutes my face was suffocating and that i required to wash them back. Other shades to test are Brownie and Mocha Honey.
6- L’Oreal True Match Super Blendable Makeup- Nut Brown
PROS-Oh my goodness you guys this make-up was awesome! Spread really, excellent! Matches wonderfully for the yellow undertone. Really does a brown-skinned girl justice. Light, which means your skin can breathe. Good coverage for females with blemishes. Pretty readily accessible, and that i claim that with hesitance, because 7 times out of 10 they will carry all BUT the shades for brown-skinned. Um, I see them at Wal-Mart, Walgreens..and that’s just about it.
CONS- The product has SPF and I am VERY allergic to sun block so it broke me out something terrible. Type of hard to find. It’s a bit more expensive in comparison to the previous products mentioned. MMM, I would personally say about 10.99 or higher. You might be able to discover it discounted. Also, there is not a lot within the bottle, so use sparingly whenever you can. Other shades to try out…. Soft Sable and Cocoa.
7- Revlon Color Stay Makeup with Soft Flex – Mahogany
PROS- Pretty readily available generally in most drugstores. Colors are perfect for brown-skinned girls. Sort of affordable. A little around the high end but about 9.99-12.99 just for this product. The coverage is okay… Not the most effective, but if you are looking for light to moderate coverage this is a good product.
CONS- Now, I discovered that Mahogany did not match my undertones that great. I know…. Again with all the undertones. It dried and made my skin look just a little grayish and chalky. There exists 58deyypky a real good selection to pick from for darker skin tones. Has SPF6, unhealthy for me, but good for everyone who is not really allergic. Also, again, should you don’t have the undertone problem…. Other shades to use… Cappuccino and Mocha.
Not only that but Not necessarily least…
8- Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse – Cocoa (Dark 3)
PROS- OH MY GOSH…… loving the product!! (sing song voice) this is actually the current constitute I am using now! It def does what the commercial says. It covers your pores, and provide you a great finish! Maximum coverage! Need NO concealer, well… maybe a bit, however i don’t use any. It is very affordable, from about 7-10 bucks. I stumbled upon it right at the Kroger food store, so it ought to be offered at most pharmacies. It comes with a nifty little nozzle that squirts out and it’s really convenient. It is also whipped feeling, and I apply with my fingers.
It merely glides on, and begins covering all my pores and dark spots, along with its not very heavy, I don’t have to wear a bunch. The best also comes off, therefore if I over-squirt, I will place it right back into the bottle. There’s lots within the bottle, and also you don’t need to use a great deal for coverage. I do believe I bought this bottle monthly ago and so i still have a little more than half a bottle left. It’s great! I like it. Hopefully this can be the final of the road in my opinion, but usually it isn’t!
